The Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County named the recipients of the 2024 Friend of Youth Award and the Steven L. Bailey Award yesterday, August 15 at their annual open house at the Youth Services Bureau facility, 1344 Maple Drive. Friend of Youth Awards went to Sally Morrison and Eric Marshall for their ongoing service to the youth of the community. Terry Stoffel received the Steven L. Bailey Award.

Charles Chapman, president of the Youth Services Bureau board of directors, welcomed those in attendance, and introduced Jan Williams, executive director of the Youth Services Bureau, who presented the awards. Williams also stated that she was thankful for the Lilly Strengthening Youth Grant that allowed the YSB to remodel the building. She also remembered A.J. Broxon, a YSB original staff member who passed away last year, for her contributions to the youth of Huntington. A visible memorial to Broxon, complete with a plaque inscribed with Broxon’s name, sits outside the YSB in the form of two heavy green resin picnic tables with benches.

Sally Morrison received the 2024 Friend of Youth Award for the impact she has made in the lives of youth and families in Huntington County. After her retirement from HCCSC, she has continued to volunteer engaging other parents and community people to get involved with children, families and their schools. Morrison is also active at her church, tutors college students and is a member of the United Way board of directors.

Eric Marshall also received a 2024 Friend of Youth Award for his positive impact on children through his coaching, and his involvement with community events and his church. Marshall is said to have a unique way of connecting with and relating to people on a personal level.

The Steven L. Bailey Award is given each year in honor of the major impact Bailey had on youth and families, the YSB and the community. Terry Stoffel received the 2024 Steven L. Bailey Award for the impact he has had on the community’s youth for two decades. Stoffel has dedicated his life to helping support, encourage, safeguard and improve the quality of life for youth and their families. He serves as a mentor, teacher and advocate for youth.

Jan Williams, who came to the YSB in 1995 and has served in various roles, currently executive director, announced that she will retire in December of 2024. Michelle Crone, assistant executive director, will assume the role. Williams plans to stay involved with the YSB especially through the Suicide Prevention Program.
