Twelve Parkview Health nurses were recognized this spring by The DAISY Foundation for extraordinary nursing.

The DAISY Foundation was founded in memory of Patrick Barnes, a 33-year-old man who spent eight weeks in a hospital being treated for an autoimmune disorder. During his stay, Barnes received excellent nursing care, and, in his memory, his family created The DAISY Foundation to honor nurses who go above and beyond for their patients.

Recognized in 40 countries and territories, the Foundation has honored 220,000+ nurses across 6,500+ healthcare organizations and schools of nursing – with more than 2.5 million nominations submitted by patients, families and colleagues. The award not only recognizes nurses for exceptional care, but helps to inspire and engage co-workers, build team spirit and reinforce the importance of providing patient and family-centered care.

Between April 1 and June 30, the following twelve nurses received DAISY awards. Those nurses include: Joann Blount, Parkview Hospital Randallia; Jennifer Coffey, Parkview Regional Medical Center; Melinda Leatherman, Parkview Hospital Randallia; Andrea Magnuson, Parkview Noble Hospital; Jessica Maines, Parkview LaGrange Hospital; Kali Moran, Parkview Regional Medical Center; Meghan Pearson, Parkview DeKalb Hospital; Molly Pettit, Parkview Huntington Hospital; Brittany Saaf, Parkview Kosciusko Hospital; Julie Tarlton, Parkview Regional Medical Center and Marlayna Young, Parkview Wabash Hospital.

“Having twelve nurses recognized by The DAISY Foundation this spring is a real honor,” said Juli Johnson, chief nursing and patient services executive, Parkview Health. “The stories reflected in these award nominations show the compassionate care and dedication to their patients that our nurses bring to the job every day. Whether it’s taking time to fully address questions, or taking time to calm and comfort patients and their families, or advocating for the needs of their patients, our nurses go above and beyond for those they serve.”

In total, 68 Parkview nurses have been honored with a DAISY award since 2021.
