Huntington’s Chi Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority recently awarded two general scholarships and the Laura Blackburn Memorial Scholarship for a total of $3,000. The scholarships are awarded annually by Tri Kappa and are based on academic achievement, community service, character and impact.

Those receiving general scholarships are:

Kyleigh Nall, $1,000 scholarship. Nall plans to attend Huntington University this Fall to study Veterinary Nursing. While at HNHS, Nall was a member of the National Honor Society, Pep Band and participated in ISSMA Solo & Ensemble at District and State levels. Nall also participated with the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA School of Dance. Kyleigh stated, “Since I was a child, I’ve always loved animals. My dream was to become a veterinarian.” She is the daughter of Bryan and Tracy Nall, Huntington.

Natalie Stallsmith, $1,000 scholarship. Stallsmith plans to attend Huntington University to pursue nursing and plans to become a NICU nurse. While a student at HNHS, Stallsmith was a member of the National Honor Society, the Bowling Team and participated in the Riley Dance Marathons. Stallsmith volunteers with her church in both the children’s area and the sound room. Natallie states “Young children and babies have a special place in my heart. There will be hard days but the good will overtake the challenging ones.” She is the daughter of Eric and Michelle Stallsmith, Huntington.

Abigail Grube, Laura Blackburn Memorial Scholarship $1,000. Grube plans to attend Huntington University where she will study Elementary Education. While a student at HNHS, Grube was a member of the JV/Varsity basketball team, Varsity Track and Field, was an inductee to the National Honor Society, and a Scholar Athlete. Grube also spends time volunteering at her church, with Blessings in a Backpack and coaching Junior Lady Vikings Basketball. Grube feels her love of teaching comes from the example of her mother, a teacher, and the teachers that she’s had in her life. “I want to be a teacher because I want to honor those teachers who showed me what it means to be impactful and leave a love for learning. She is the daughter of Phillip and Angela Grube, Roanoke.

The Laura Blackburn Memorial Scholarship is given in memory of Laura Blackburn, who was a Huntington County elementary school teacher and an active member of Tri Kappa. Candidates for this scholarship must be planning to major in education.
