Huntington-area residents now have another friendly, knowledgeable healthcare provider to turn to for general medical care. Shannon Brisbin, PA-C, recently joined the Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) – Family Medicine team in Huntington and is seeing patients at her office in the John B. Kay Medical Office Building adjoining Parkview Huntington Hospital (PHH).
Brisbin moved to Huntington from Terre Haute, Indiana, where she completed her master’s degree in physician assistant (PA) studies at Indiana State University, Terre Haute. Most recently, she has been working with patients at Internal Medicine Nephrology and the Kidney Hypertension Center of the Wabash Valley, both located in Terre Haute.
“Shannon brings another great facet to our team,” said Tracy McClellan, practice manager, PPG – Family Medicine. “We’re so pleased she has decided to return to Huntington with her own family. I have no doubt that patients will really feel confident in her as a caregiver and advocate for their well-being.”
Brisbin pursued her undergraduate studies at Purdue University – Fort Wayne, receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology.
She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She has broad clinical experience in inpatient, outpatient and surgical settings.
Physician assistants are a crucial part of Parkview Physicians Group care teams. With an advanced degree and clinical training, Brisbin has specialized knowledge and may see patients to: obtain medical histories; perform physical examinations; order and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab tests and radiology studies; prescribe medications; assist a physician with surgical procedures and provide education to patients regarding their health.
“I have always been passionate about healthcare,” said Brisbin. “I want my patients to know that I care about them as people first and want to help them live a more full and healthy life.
“My husband and I are originally from the Wabash area,” she continued, “and I even attended Huntington University for some time. We decided to move to Huntington to be closer to family and to serve the communities we grew up in.”
Outside the office, Brisbin, who has a 2-year-old daughter, enjoys reading, being outdoors and playing with her toddler, watching her grow and learn. Brisbin is now welcoming new patients. To schedule an appointment, call (260) 356-5424. Her office is located at 2003 Stults Road, Suite 100, in Huntington.
