Parkview Huntington Hospital has been named to Becker’s Healthcare’s 2023 list of Great Community Hospitals.

The award recognizes highly rated facilities serving rural and small suburban areas. This is the sixth time since 2015 that Parkview Huntington Hospital has received a Great Community Hospitals recognition from Becker’s.

“Community hospitals are vital components of the overall healthcare system, expanding care access to patients who might otherwise need to travel great distances or face other barriers to care. Community hospitals selected for the list are lauded for their clinical excellence, compassionate care and economic impact on their communities,” Becker’s stated.

“Hundreds of people – co-workers, patients and visitors – come to Parkview Huntington Hospital every day, and our goal is to provide them with excellent care, every visit,” said Doug Selig, market president, Parkview Health South. “Providing world-class, high-quality care to Huntington County and the surrounding communities is our mission, and we’re proud to be recognized by Becker’s as one of its Great Community Hospitals.”

Huntington County has had its own hospital since 1902, and it joined Parkview Health in 1995. The current hospital campus, located at 2001 Stults Road in Huntington, opened in 2000 with the 136,500-square-foot hospital and 34,000-square-foot medical office building. A 20,000-square-foot addition, opened in 2019, expanded the cardiopulmonary rehab and outpatient therapy spaces and enabled the hospital to open a wound healing clinic featuring state-of-the-art treatment options and two hyperbaric chambers.

Parkview Huntington has 36 inpatient beds and operates a full-service, 24-hour emergency department. The hospital also includes two surgery suites and an endoscopy room, a Family Birthing Center, the Holly D. Sale Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, a sleep disorders lab and an anticoagulation therapy unit, among other services. More than 350 physicians are on the hospital’s medical staff.

The hospital recently received its fourth consecutive “A” in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, has been recognized as a Top 100 community hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health four times and was previously named in Best Places to Work listings by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Modern Healthcare.

Becker’s Healthcare is one of the nation’s top media platforms in print, digital and live events dedicated to reporting on American healthcare. The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on analysis of ranking and award agencies, including U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 rankings, Healthgrades, CMS star ratings, The Leapfrog Group safety grades and The Chartis Center for Rural Health. Becker’s also accepted nominations for this list, which included 153 facilities upon publication.
