During the 2022 legislative session, the Indiana General Assembly introduced 849 bills and passed 177. Many of those new state laws will take effect today, July 1. Here are a few of those new laws:
Permitless Carry: a person is no longer required to obtain a permit or license to carry a handgun in the state. This does not apply to those who are prohibited from carrying a gun and those under 18 years old.
Vaping Product Tax: added to the wholesale price is a 15% tax on prefilled e-cigarette cartridges and vape pods. Also, a 15% retail tax on other vaping products goes in effect.
Tax Cuts: an income tax reduction that is phased-in over the next seven years. The utility receipts tax was also eliminated.
Electric Vehicle Charging: a business may make EV charging available to the public and charge for the service.
E-Learning Days: establishes the definition of a virtual learning day as less than a half a day with live instruction from teachers and limits the number of virtual learning days to three per school year.
