The Veterans Council of Huntington County and the Huntington County Veterans Office will have a Memorial Day program on Monday, May 30, 6:30 p.m., at The Awakening Community Church in Huntington.

The program will include a tribute honoring the 72 Huntington County veterans who died in 2021.

The program is open to the public. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the facility is handicap accessible.

Members of VFW Post #2689 and American Legions Posts #7, #85 and #160 will present the post everlasting ceremony and a formal flag folding, along with a three-volley salute and playing of taps.

Memorial wreaths will be laid by the Huntington County Commissioners and the Mayor of Huntington, as well as members of the VFW and American Legion Posts and auxiliaries.

The veterans council will also distribute approximately 2,400 flags to cemeteries in Huntington County. In most cases, the flags will be placed at the cemetery entrances. Citizens are invited to take one of these flags to place on the grave of their veterans.
