Huntington has “A Heritage of Caring”

Heritage Days 2025, June 11 through June 15, will celebrate the people of Huntington and how they care for one another with the theme, “A Heritage of Caring.” Over the years many individuals, businesses and organizations have united the community in caring for one another. Each week the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce will highlight one of these entities in this column.

The Indiana Family Care Center is a nonprofit ministry that cares for families through one-on-one mentoring, classes and a Learn to Earn Program. Located at 517 N. Jefferson Street in downtown Huntington, Chad Kippert is the Director of Operations and Amber Rice, Op Shop.

Free walk-in pregnancy tests, mentoring for those raising children, foster parents, Hope 61 and Hope’s Closet are ways the Indiana Family Care Center works to restore those needing these services. The Center also partners with local agencies to provide wrap around services and eliminate travel.

Parenting classes are available through Awakening Dreams by a Brighter Future which includes family education and cycle breaking groups. Families are also served by One Family at a Time through Jesus Christ. The love of Jesus is shown through the Center’s promise to serve each family with love, respect and a commitment to see families changed, and in turn communities changed.

Educational resources can be found at the Indiana Family Care Center including life skills, family planning, a fatherhood initiative, financial concerns/guidance, conflict resolution and more. It works with Bowen Health, Huntington County Community School Corporation, Indiana DCS, Indiana WIC, McKenzie’s Hope, the Parkview Huntington Boys and Girls Club, Place of Grace, United with Love and the Youth Services Bureau. The Center also cares for the community with outdoor food pantries, and plans and works the Back-to-School Bash and the BIG Give at Christmas each year.
