Heritage Days 2025, June 11 through June 15, will celebrate the people of Huntington and how they care for one another with the theme, “A Heritage of Caring.” Over the years many individuals, businesses and organizations have united the community in caring for one another. Each week the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce will highlight one of these entities in this column.

Harmony Home of Huntington cares for men in residential homes with a 12-step recovery experience. Robert Knorr, founder, executive director and manager, began the Harmony Home program for men seeking recovery from alcohol and/or drug addiction.

Currently three homes are located in Huntington, 715 E. Tipton Street, 848 First Street and 351 E. Franklin Street. A total of 36 residents can be housed in these homes. Residents of the homes are provided safe and supportive environments while being given the opportunity for rehabilitation and lifelong sobriety. Nine to 18 months are required to complete the structured program which builds a strong and lasting foundation for recovery. Daily living, relapse prevention training, addiction education and group therapy are part of the 12-step philosophy.

Plans for the Harmony Home began in 2017, with the first home opening in 2019. Residents of a Harmony Home make a commitment to stay clean and sober one day at a time, and abide by all house rules including curfew. They must attend and participate in all AA/NA meetings. Their personal area should be kept clean, daily chores completed, and they must be considerate and respectful of others and their belongings. Attendance in classes and group therapy is required. Residents also submit to random alcohol and drug screens, their fees paid on time and a 4-phase, 9-month structure-based program must be completed.

While living in a Harmony Home, residents are cared for, meals are provided, a washer and dryer are available for use and public and in-house AA/NA meetings are required. Weekly house activities, computer access, Wi-Fi and peer support are part of the amenities. Transportation to employment, health related appointments and more are arranged by residents through caring management and volunteers.
