Huntington North students attended food safety and program training at the Huntington Arts & Entrepreneurial Center (HAEC). The Pre-Employment Transition Services (PRE-ETS) program empowers students to explore food service experiences. Viking students and Pathfinder Services’ transition specialists learned to prepare to sell lunches downtown.
“Through the HAEC venue, students will find value in service. Learning these skills help them to succeed in the workplace after high school,” said Heather Johnson. Johnson is a Pre-Employment Transition Specialist.
Lunches will be served at the HAEC’s Arts Included Gallery, 32 E. Franklin Street, starting June 16, every Thursday and Friday, through the end of July. Vikings serve “Grab and Go” lunches from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Expect a menu of cold food items such as croissants, wraps, salads and desserts to kick off the project.
“Collaboration between organizations like HCCSC, each division of Pathfinder Services and the people living and working in Huntington is a level of engagement that HAEC strives for,” said Katy Strass, HAEC director. “Creative opportunities, skill-building and business strategy are key elements to what we do.”
