HC HELP opens applications for scholarships

Huntington County HELP has opened applications for scholarships for the 2023-24 school year. HELP Scholarships of up to $1,500 are awarded annually to full-time college students who are Huntington County residents and are working toward a degree in special health care fields including speech and hearing, social work, special education, physical and occupational therapy, nursing and medical or mental health specialties.

The Jane Nes Memorial Scholarship, given in memory of longtime board member and caseworker Jane Nes, may also be awarded to a Huntington County resident who is enrolled as a full-time or part-time student and who has been accepted into an accredited nursing program with the intent of becoming a Registered Nurse.

Also available is a scholarship named in memory of longtime HELP board member John Decker. The John Decker Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of up to $1,500, will be awarded to a Huntington County resident who is a high school senior or a student enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in post-high school studies and has a qualifying disability as identified by the following criteria (1) the scholarship applicant has had an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) during their years in high school; and/or (2) the applicant has been a client of Vocational Rehabilitation Services. 

Applications for all three scholarships will be available at huntingtoncountyhelp.com/ from January 15, 2023 through March 18, 2023. All applicants will be notified of the scholarship committee’s decision in April 2023.
