Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne is excited to announce that donors can still take advantage of a new tax credit program that will directly benefit families in Huntington County through the Habitat GFW affiliate. The tax credits are available through June 30, 2025, and offer donors the opportunity to receive a tax credit equal to 50% of their donation, making it easier for individuals and businesses to contribute to affordable housing efforts for local families.

In addition to financial donations, individuals and businesses can also participate with in-kind donations of new construction materials, land, and/or real estate.

This program is a critical part of Habitat for Humanity’s mission to help struggling Hoosier families access safe, stable and affordable housing. With a goal of providing 300 homes annually for families in need across the state, the tax credit program offers a compelling incentive for local investment in Habitat’s work. Through this initiative, Habitat hopes to build more homes and transform the lives of families in Greater Fort Wayne and beyond.

Key Details of the Program:

Who Qualifies:

Donors must be individual taxpayers, small businesses, or corporations based in Indiana. Contributions can offset personal or business tax liabilities. Donors should consult with a financial advisor to determine eligibility and the best way to allocate credits. Habitat GFW staff is available to assist donors through the process.

What Donations Are Eligible:

Donations can be in the form of checks, land or real estate, stocks and bonds, IRA contributions, donor-advised funds (under certain conditions), construction materials, or even cryptocurrency.

How the Tax Credit Works:

The tax credit is equal to 50% of the donation amount. For example, a donation of $1,000 qualifies for a $500 credit on the donor’s Indiana state income tax return. The program has a cap of $20,000 per year ($10,000 in tax credits), with unused credits able to be carried over for up to five years.

Where to Donate:

Donations must be made to Habitat for Humanity of Indiana, which will direct the funds to the Habitat GFW affiliate as specified by the donor on their tax credit form. Checks should be made out to Habitat for Humanity of Indiana and sent along with a completed tax credit form to: 101 West Ohio Street, Suite 2000, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Pre-paid return envelopes are available upon request.
