The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce held it’s second luncheon to introduce Huntington University students to community leaders. The luncheon was held Tuesday, March 1 in the community conference room inside the Huntington Arts & Entrepreneurial Center, 32 E. Franklin Street.

The meeting encouraged the students in attendance to network with community leaders. It also helped leaders of the community get to know the students a bit better. Goals to be achieved from the meeting include mentoring the student on what to expect when pursuing a career in their field of choice, future internships, and jobs or business startups. Through the luncheon, students were able to get to know some community leaders in Huntington County much better.

Students attending the event were interested in computer science, business and business management, sports management, economics, finance, accounting and exercise science with the hopes of owning their own fitness center one day.

Students attending the second luncheon included Valentin Mussi, Diego Tapia, Robert Nabulere, Mateo Ameller del Castillo, Luke Dittman and Miguel Gonzalez. The community leaders that attended and mentored the students were Mike Zahn, president and CEO, First Federal Savings Bank; Brooks Fetters, owner, The Huntington Bicycle Shop and former mayor of the City of Huntington; Jeremy Markham, athletic director, Huntington North High School; Jill Jamison, CPA, Culp CPA Group; Todd Latta, executive director, Parkview Huntington Family YMCA; Alan Siepker, human resource manager, Teijin Automotive and John Garrott, vice president of internal audit, Beacon Credit Union.

The students and leaders of the community found the time they spent together was an investment in our community and with the students. The goal of these meetings are to help graduating students find careers right here in Huntington or the region.
